Trade Show Drayage Explained: Avoid Surprises Between the Truck and the Booth

DRAYAGE GUIDE

Drayage Explained:
Avoid Surprises at the Show

Drayage is the most misunderstood cost in trade show exhibiting. It is mandatory, it is charged by weight, and it can exceed the cost of your display if you are not prepared. This guide explains what drayage is, how it is calculated, and how to plan smarter.

The Drayage Process

When your freight arrives at the show venue — whether shipped to the advance warehouse or directly to the show — the official show decorator takes custody of it. They move it to your booth space, store empty containers during the show, and return your freight to the dock at the end. This entire process is drayage, and it is charged regardless of whether you use it.
